Instagram is another form of Social Media that allows a user to upload photos and videos from a Smartphone. It has the same concept as other Social Media Platforms where each user has a Profile which is where you upload your photos and videos to and a News Feed where you can see the pictures and videos of those accounts you follow.
Many businesses have a Facebook account but tend to shy away from an Instagram account because they don’t see a need for it. So, what do you think? Thinking about your business, do you need an Instagram account?
The short answer is Yes! For me, opportunities to promote brands and ultimately generate an income have come through my Instagram account for That Noise Is Mine. It gives my readers and followers behind the scenes look at my life and some insight into my thoughts and what makes me tick. It’s far less structured than other social media forms, and it’s the account where I have the most fun.
As Instagram is purely visual based it can give a business an opportunity to showcase who they are and provide a more personal side to their business. Give their business a Face (even if you choose not to use your actual “face”!). If you have a business or blog focusing in areas such as Travel, Art, Home Decoration etc. and Instagram account would be essential.
As far as a traffic source for my website, Instagram isn’t as high as other social media platforms, but I still have some hits from Instagram. It is for that reason I rarely post on Instagram about a new blog post.
As well as posting images and videos to your profile Instagram also lets you post “stories”. Instagram Stories are snippets or memories from your day, these posts don’t appear in your feed or profile and are accessed by clicking on your profile picture. They disappear after 24 hours (assuming no one has taken a screenshot and re-posted). This is another feature that allows you to have a bit of fun and express some creativity with your account. I have been using this feature recently to show more of my children. I like to protect their identity, but sometimes I have cute videos or pictures that show a little more of them than I would typically post onto my profile. So far, these stories have been relatively successful.
Take a look at my own Instagram account for That Noise Is Mine and have a look at the accounts I am following to get an idea of how this social media platform can work for you.
